Mevis Study of the Donor Liver

The Mevis study is a very important step of assessing the donor liver. First a triphasic CT scan is done to get detailed anatomical information on the donor anatomy. All the raw data is then sent to Germany and special reconstructions of the scans are done to evaluate the volume of the liver and its individual segments and reconstruct in 3-D the anatomy of all the major arteries and blood vessels in the liver as well. This data provides the surgeons with all necessary data as to whether the liver can be removed safely in a potential donor.

This is an analysis of the Hepatic artery.

This is an analysis of the portal vein

This patient has a common variant of a double portal vein on the right side. This patient is suitable as a donor.

This is an analysis of the hepatic venous structures in the liver.

Computer analysis of a right lobe graft and possible areas of congestion in the liver.

In general, a patient should have at least 30% of his liver volume left behind. It would be better if it were 35/% or more.
