Commonwealth Essay Writing Competition
This competition aims to inspire young authors all over the world to achieve a high standard of creative writing. It provides a unique opportunity for schools to take part in a global educational project. It also helps to promote the use of English as a leading world language in a fun, attractive way.

Speak Good English Movement
To encourage pupils to speak good English though fun activities and assembly talks. Speaking good English means using grammatically correct English in conversations where rules for constructing sentences are adhered to.

English and Mathematics Camp P1 and P2
P1 and P2 pupils spend the day completing different Maths & English activities at different stations in the school. The pupils learn different Maths & English concepts at the end of the day.

Learning Support Programme (LSP)
The Learning Support Programme supports at risk pupils in the English Language from Primary 1 as well as Primary 2. 47 pupils from Primary 1 and 34 pupils from Primary 2 are taken out from their classes one period a day. The programme aims to bridge the gap between where they are to where they should be at the primary one/two level.

From Term 2 onwards, selected LSP pupils will attend Buddy Reading sessions twice a week in the morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.15am – 7.40am. On Fridays, all P1 LSP pupils will attend Language Thru’ Fun sessions where stories, songs, raps and verses are used as tools to teach the language.

At the end of each year, an outing will be organised for LSP as well as Special Kids. Its objective is to expose these kids where most of them come from disadvantaged homes, to experience something new and fun. Last year, they were taken on an excursion organised by the Singapore Explorer. It included a Bumboat Ride at Boat Quay, Trolley Bus Ride @ Town and a Visit to Summit at the Suntec City.

During the library periods, the spotlight will be on books by Eric Carle and Dr Seuss. Eric Carle is a gifted author-artist. His unique collage illustrations create a world pulsating with life and color. Besides being beautiful and entertaining, his books always offer children the opportunity to learn something about the world around them. It makes the reading of his books a stimulating and lasting experience for young children. As for Dr Seuss, he was the Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-Winning Author of children’s books. His books are famous for their funny rhymes and whimsical characters. Pupils could read his books with a ‘rap’ when the sentences end with words that rhyme. This makes reading more interesting.

Our pupils will also be introduced to a few Asian folktales to give them a flavour of the kinds of stories children in other countries listen to. Books by Jan and Stan Berenstain are also recommended to our pupils as they endear us to topics on family relationships through the lives of a particular family of bears. A summary of the library lessons will be given through PowerPoint presentation.
